Some Fun Baby Photo Ideas

Babies change so quick! One minute they're a newborn and the next a toddler exploring their world. Digital cameras and cell phone cameras have made it so effortless for us to take pictures on the run and catch those day to day pictures. Sometimes we do need to do a posed portrait of our babies, maybe to commemorate a holiday or birthday. You will discover lots of baby photo ideas for some really cute portraits. Here are a few that you may possibly want to try next time you want to do a "formal" portrait as opposed to a snapshot, maybe for your holiday cards or a birth announcement?

  • Newborn cradled in your hands. This may be an affecting portrait of a newborn. Place the sleeping baby in the parent's hands, cradling the head and supporting the body on their arms.
  • Infant with pet. Does the family dog take responsibility for your new baby. Try for a portrait of the baby sleeping along with the dog "on guard" or curled up with the child.
  • Christmas Stocking. Is this baby's 1st Christmas? A newborn in the holidays is a unique treat. Place baby in a Christmas stocking for a
  • fun holiday card. This would work with both a sleeping newborn or an awake, smiling infant. Siblings. If there's an older sibling have them hold the baby. If they're a young sibling, mom or dad can support adding another dimension to the portrait.
  • Sleeping Angel. Try a white on white background with the baby in a nest of white feathers (a white boa works well for this). No need to add wings, the baby will likely be angel enough on her own!
  • Helper. Some enjoyable portrait ideas for older babies/toddlers is being mom or dad's "helper". A baby who can sit up placed in a laundry basket, in a big pot holding a wooden spoon, in a birdbath.
  • Ribbons and bows. Pose the child in a pile of holiday ribbons and bows. This would work well both for a sleeping newborn or a a lot more active infant.
  • Toys. Portraits with favorite toys are usually popular. Sleeping with a favorite teddy or awake and interacting with the toy is certain to make a fantastic photo.
  • Bubbles. The world is amazing to a baby and catching that look of wonderment makes a terrific portrait. Try blowing soap bubbles to get that look of amazement and delight.
  • Flower Pot. A great spring portrait or Easter card is to dress baby in their finest spring colors and sit them in a large flower pot. Just being in a new environment like that will give you a great expression.

These are just a few baby photo ideas you'll be able to use for your next photo session with your littlest model.
