Good amateur photography tips?

I have always been into taking pictures, and I several pretty decent ones, but think that might be a fluke. LOL I was wondering if anyone who is an advanced amateur or professional might have any good tips on advancing their hobby into a more photo-esque skill? I have a bridge camera, an Olympus SP-800UZ. I have always used a compact point & shoot up until now. So, I am not familiar with using all the features & options of a more complicated camera and I would like to learn more ways to take outstanding pictures. Something that makes someone stop & go, "WOW! That is a REALLY good picture!"

Any tips on how to use more complicated features? Are there any sites that do free online tutorials or anything like that?

Good photos don't come from special features but from using the camera correctly. A commonly quoted figure here is that good photos depend to 70% on the photographer, 20% on the quality of the lens and only 10% on the camera.

That being said, having manual control over aperture and shutter speed certainly helps. But composition still is more important than that. You may find these links interesting:
