Which color background should I use for product photography?

I've seen any places with pure white backgrounds which is how I shoot my products now. But I also see some with light gray backgrounds. Which is best? I am thinking of getting a light gray background to shoot on that instead since I like how it looks.

What color background does that look like? I am looking Adorama, and see they have a light gray, studio gray. Not sure which one to get. Thanks!

It depends what you are doing with the background and how much you are editing it. Sometimes, white, gray, offcolour backgrounds tend to pick up too much noise and can cause you problems when you're editing your image.

If you're able to pick up a sheet of a colour that won't be seen in any of your subject's clothing/product details (such as a bright, brazen pink, or a lime green) that would probably be your best choice so you can edit it out properly. If you do a lot of photoshopping or airbrushing you'll get annoyed with a white or a grey background, since removing and tweaking it can affect the subject of your shot as well.
